Life is What you Make it: One Man’s Journey

It is said “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Everyone has heard this tell-tale mantra, I know you all have. The unfortunate part; few people experience this and many simply cannot fathom the concept. That however, does not apply to one Brooklyn born and raised man who is living the life he as long aspired to live, while residing in New Jersey.

Meet Kevin McGinley.

McGinley recently retired from the world of Electrical Contracting; also known as the world of long working hours and headache, after headache, after headache. After over thirty years in the business, it was time for a change.

“It is a beautiful thing waking up and knowing you are doing something to help change the world and lives of so many people.” - Mr. McGinley

Growing up an entrepreneur and thereafter becoming a business owner, McGinley has shifted his career path by creating Tova Environmental.

“We are Tova Environmental and we believe every human being deserves clean drinking water,” their mission outwardly states. That is exactly what they aim to achieve. However, this is just the start.

What makes McGinley so inspiring is not that he has defied the odds of living a self-effacing life in which we all dream of; it is everything else he is encompassing whilst on his travels to promote Tova.

“We recently went to Burkina Faso, Africa,” he says, “and it was one of the humble countries and group of people I have ever met.”

One Man’s Journey - 1

McGinley has been and continues to be an active part of the International Taekwon-Do Federation. “I wouldn’t be where I am today, if I had not become involved with ITF and Master Vincent Affatigato,” he explains, “I cannot thank him enough.”

Master Vincent Affatigato started to coach, train and support McGinley’s journey in Taekwon-Do at his school; Original Taekwon-Do/ MMA & Fitness Center in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, twenty some odd years ago. Fast forward to present date; McGinley is a third degree Dan (black belt). He instills the same discipline, structure and teaching to others, as Master Affatigato has done for him.

While in Africa, McGinley had the rare and honorable opportunity, after reaching out to The Secretary General Master Koussoube Moustapha, to train with some of the “most amazing people,” as McGinley describes the Burkinabe’s.

McGinley had the pleasure of also training with Master Kabore Thomas, Master Coulidiaty Tiandama and Fourth Dan Roch Syata. He has been in contact with Syata and plans to attend his next Dan testing in July.

The unbearable temperatures in Burkina reached over 110 degrees Fareinheit during his two and a half hour session. He was a stranger, welcomed in with open arms, smiling faces and lessons to learn and be learned.

“It was an experience I will never forget, “he heartily says, “I was treated like family and it was surreal. I cannot wait to pursue future Tova travels and train in every single location with the locals, wherever I may be.”
